National Youth Day


National Youth Day is observed on 12th of January every year. The day is also considered as the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. On 12.01.2022, De Paul Extension Services (DES) associated with NSS Units 104 & 104A and School of Social Work to organize a youth empowerment program at DiST. The program was termed as “Empower Youth to Empower Nation” by the program coordinators. Rev. Fr. Toby Joseph SJ; a renowned NLP Grandmaster, Trainer, Counsellor and Psychotherapist was selected as the guest speaker. He is also the Director of Atmamithra Centre Kalady, a pioneering organization for youth and adolescents in training and development. The program started by 11.30 AM at DiST Seminar Hall. Dr.Unny C J (Principal, DiST), Asst. Prof. Subin George (HOD, School of Social Work), Dr. Geo Baby (Director, School of Management), Mr. Savio Stanly (Project Officer, DES), Asst. Prof. Anju V Nair (Program Officer, NSS) and many other dignitaries participated in the program.

Extreme Poverty Identification Study


On 06.01.2022, DES guided NSS in the implementation of 'Extreme Poverty Identification Study' at Parakkadavu Gramapanchayath. Ms. Veena and Ms. Shaisha Mazik (Project assistants, Parakkadavu Gramapanchayath), Mr. Jayadevan (President, Parakkadavu Panchayath), Mr. Naito Baby (Secretary, Parakkadavu Gramapanchayath), Mr. Savio Stanly (Project Officer, DES) and Ms. Anju V Nair (Programme Officer, NSS) was present for the orientation session. The survey was done in a two-step process using mobile applications. The students received certificates, honorarium and travel allowances from the panchayath.

Human Rights Day


Human Rights Day is observed on 10th December of every year. De Paul Extension Services (DES) collaborated with School of Social Work and Railway CHILDLINE Ernakulam to organize an awareness program in Ernakulam Junction Railway station. Students performed a flash mob and a street play on the theme “Reducing Inequalities & Advancing Human Rights”. Mr. Nithin Norbert (Station Director, Ekm South), Mr. Shano Jose (District Coordinator, RCHD Ekm), Mr. Jijo Joy (HOD, School of Social Work) and Mr. Savio Stanly (Project Officer, DES) spoke during the program.

REAL EYES (TO – REALIZE)


On 27.11.2021 De Paul Extension Services (DES) organized a soft skill development program for the adolescents in Mother Teresa Church, Panthackal. Mr. Prasad M (psycho-linguistic trainer) was the resource person for the program. A full day program was arranged with three different sessions. Rev. Fr. Antony Vattaparambil (Parish Priest), Mr. Albin Vithayathil (Catechism Director) are the other dignitaries who attended the program along with the group of adolescent students in that parish circle

International Day for The Eliminination of Violence Against Women


‘INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMININATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN’ was observed by DES on 25/11/2021 at Karukutty gramapanchayath hall. The program started at 10.30 AM with a Rally from Karukutty junction to Panchayath community hall. Adv. Jency Jose, Legal Counselor of De Paul Service Providing Center handled a session regarding 'women rights and women empowerment'. The major aim of the session was to create an awareness among women about the laws and services provided for them, also she shared vital information and helpline details regarding women protection. Ms. Lathika Sasikumar (Panchayath President), Fr. George Pottayil VC (Director, DES), Mr. Jijo Paul (Standing committee for welfare), Ms. Rosy Paul (Standing committee for development), Ms. Mary Antony (Standing committee for health), Mr. Savio Stanly (DES Coordinator), ward members,kudumbasree members, ASHA workers and much more women participants from Karukutty gramapanchayath were involved in the session

Mental Health Day


The World Mental Health Day was celebrated by DES in Alphonsa Sadan, Kidangoor on 13.10.2021. Dr.Milu Joseph, District Leader of Women & Child Department Thrissur conveyed the special message of the day. Cultural programs including action song and dance were performed by the MSW20 batch. Fr. Robin Chittuparambil VC Vice Principal of DIST, Mr. Jijo Joy HOD of School of Social Work, Ms. Jeby Chackochan Asst. Professor of School of Social Work, Mr. Savio Stanly DES Coordinator and MSW20 batch students of social work participated in the program. Program concluded by the distribution of Snacks and refreshments for the beneficiaries of Alphonsa Sadan.

International day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking


The De Paul Extension Services (DES) in association with School of management and Anti-Narcotics club of DIST conducted a webinar on 26th June 2021 with the motive of observing "International day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" for the students, scholars and teaching faculties. The Deputy Exercise Commissioner of Ernakulam Mr. Ashok Kumar TA delivered the Felicitation Speech and the presidential address was rendered by Dr. Unny C), Principal of DIST. The Speaker of the Session, Mr. Rishiraj Singh IPS (Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Kerala) presented the keynote address on "International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking".

SNEHASWARAM


SNEHASWARAM is a project inaugurated on 15.05.2021, organizing by DES & De Paul Institute of Science and Technology by the coordination of SNEHASWARAM CLUB of School of Social Work, DIST Angamaly. This venture mainly aims to the welfare of senior citizens who were ignored by their dear ones. We are giving our service through phone contact and also visiting them in special occasions. Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas (Hon. Vice Chancellor of MG University, Kottayam) inaugurated the SNEHASWARAM project. Dr. John Mangalath VC (Manager of DiST) released the logo for the project. Dr. Unny CJ (Principal, DiST), Mr. Jijo Joy (HOD, School of Social Work) and Dr. Xavier Vinayaraj N V (Project Coordinator and Asst. Prof.) were the other dignitaries attended the function.

International Women's Day


De Paul Extension Services (DES) and De Paul Organization for Women Empowerment-DOWE organized International Women's Day celebrations on 9th March 2020 at DiST Annexe hall at 1:30pm. Rev. Fr. George Pottayil VC gave the presidential address. Dr.Unni CJ principal of DiST honored Ms. Mini Chacko Puthuserry differently abled women entrepreneur, the title winner of Eastern Bhoomika Award-2017. And Ms. Mini Chacko Puthussery shared her inspired story with the students. Rev.Fr. Lindo Puthuparambil (Finance Director, DiST) released the logo of DOWE. Ms. Priya Antony P (Counsellor, Snehitha) distributed the memento to Ms.Pavithra Chandran (MCA18) and Ms. Aparna Sunil (BA Animation 18) the creators of DOWE logo. The official programs of the International Women's day concluded with the vote of thanks given by Ms. Aswini Madhu.

World Social Justice Day


De Paul Extension services (DES) in association with National Service Scheme observed World Social Justice Day on 24th February 2020 at DiST Seminar Hall. "Closing the Inequalities gap to achieve Social Justice" was the theme of this year. Dr. Unny CJ (Principal, DiST) inaugurates the programme and spoke economic development is an important part of a country to achieve social justice. The social justice officer of Ernakulum Mr. John Joshy took a session on the topic "Closing the Inequalities Gap to Achieve Social Justice" and also he mentioned welfare programs and services for women, differently abled and mentally challenged persons, children, destitute orphans, senior citizen's schemes of Social Justice Department.

Vimukthi Jwala


De Paul Institute of Science and Technology conducted Vimukthi Jwala and Pledge on February 7, 2020 at 11:00 am. College principal Dr. Unny CJ read the pledge and students took the pledge. Rev. Fr. George Pottayil Vc (Director, DiST) and Dr. Xavier Vinayaraj also participated in the program. The program lasted for half an hour with more than 50 participants of Anti-Narcotics Club.

Vimukthi –Drug Drive


Kerala state excise department developed the mission, Vimukthi to spread the awareness about drug abuse and its consequences. As part of Vimukthi project, Kerala state excise department in association with Angamaly Municipality had arranged the 'Conclusion campaign of 90 days' rigorous antinarcotic awareness' in De Paul Institute of Science & Technology. So the Antinarcotic club of DiST took the initiative and decided to conduct the program with the consultation of college management in DiST Seminar hall.

Mr. Sojan Sebastian, Circle Inspector of Aluva Excise Range welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was given by Ms. A.M Gracy, Chairperson of Angamaly Municipal Corporation. The chief guest of the meeting was Mr. Roji. M. John, MLA gave the inaugural address and done the inauguration with all the dignitaries on the dais with the presence of few Antinarcotic club coordinator and student representatives. Fr. George Pottayil VC, the Director of DiST delivered the keynote speech which shows the support towards the program and club activities. The awareness speech and discussion with the audience was done by Mr. A. S. Renjith, Excise Deputy Commissioner Ernakulam, it was quiet a fruitful session to all.

Nalathe Keralam Laharimuktha Nava Keralam - Bike Rally


De Paul Extension Services (DES) and Kerala Excise Department jointly organized an awareness bike rally on the theme "Nalathe Keralam Laharimuktha Nava Keralam" held on December 4, 2019. More than 110 students participated in the bike rally. Rev. Fr. George Pottayil VC (Director, DiST) delivered the presidential address. Mr. Sojan Sebastian (CI of Aluva Excise Range) conveyed his felicitation and hosted the rally. The rally went upto K.S.R.T.C Angamaly Bus Terminal. Various banners and posters were held by the students throughout the rally.

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking


International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was observed in De Paul Institute of Science and Technology with the support of Anti narcotic club, DiST and Excise Department of Kerala on 26 June 2019. As a part of the observation a Collage Making Competition was organized for every department of DiST. An awareness class on the theme for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2019'Health for Justice. Justice for Health'. Mr. Madhu Babu the DySP, Narcotics Department was the chief guest of the programme. After the awareness class followed by a rally was also organized for college students and more than 100 participants attended in the rally which started from De Paul campus and concluded at Private bus stand of Angamaly.

International Yoga Day


International Yoga Day was observed under the leadership of NSS Units in collaboration with DES of DiST on 21st June, 2019 in the DiST Annex Seminar Hall. It was inaugurated by Fr George Pottayil VC, Director of the college. There was a practical session on Yoga by Yogacharya M. K. Sivan, a renowned Yoga instructor.

Nature Camp


A nature camp was organized by DES in Collaboration with department of social forestry Ernakulam, Kerala and nature club of DiST, Angamaly. The journey to the camp site started from DiST Angamaly on 12.3.2019 at 9.00am and reached Vazhachal forest office the camp site at 10.30am. There was an orientation session given by Mr. Appachan the retd. Range officer, Athirappilly range. Later on the students were taken in to the forest for trekking and they had the chance to visit a tribal community of Vazhachal forest range. There were lunch and refreshments provided by the forest department.

Dental Outreach Camp

DES in collaboration with the De Paul School of computer science and St. Gregorious dental college. Kothamangalam organized a dental camp on 18.12.2018 in the Ezhattumugham Church hall. Rev. Fr. Subin (Parish priest) inaugurated the dental camp officially. Dr. Anzil, the head of the team briefed about the camp to the people gathered around. 22 doctors from the dental college were present during the programme. The camp went on till 2 pm and 106 people benefitted out of the camp. There was free dental checkup, cleaning, filling, extraction and advice on different types of treatment in the camp.

Workshop on lifestyle diseases

DES organized a dental camp in collaboration with the Amala fellowship Panthakal unit and Mr. Gregorious Dental College, Kothamanagalam on 14.11.2018 in the DiST campus. Dr. Unny C J (Principal, DiST), inaugurated the session and Dr. Kiran, Dr, Abraham, Rev.Fr. George Pottayil (Director, DiST) Mr. Dintomon P D (Project Coordinator, DES) and 22 doctors from the dental college etc. were present during the programme. The camp went on till 3 pm and 186 people benefitted out of the camp. There were free dental checkup, capping, cleaning, filling and advice on different types of treatment in the camp.

Workshop on lifestyle diseases

A medical camp and workshop on lifestyle diseases was organized by de Paul extension center in collaboration with Maria Hospital Angamaly for the staff of de Paul institute of science and Technology DiST, Angamaly on 17.09.2018. The medical camp began at 9.30am in the dist annex hall and 100 staff made use of the opportunity to check the Thyroid and glucose levels in their body. In addition to this, a workshop was organized at 4.00pm in the DiST seminar hall on the topic ‘lifestyle diseases, Diet and exercise’. The workshop was led by Dr. Dorphy P D, a specialist in lifestyle diseases. The session ended at 5.30pm. Rev.Fr. George Pottayil(Director, DiST) Dr. Unny C J(Principal, DiST), Mr. Dintomon P D(Project Coordinator, DES) etc. were present during the programme.


23 July

Anti- Narcotic club inauguration

DES in collaboration with the Excise department of Kerala inaugurated the anti-narcotic club in De Paul institute of science and technology on 23rd July 2018 in the Dist annex auditorium. Dr. Unny C J, the principal of DIST, Fr. George Pottayil VC (The Director, DiST), Mr. M K Karthikaeyan (Preventive Officer, Angamalyy Excise Range), Mr. Vinod Naranat(A famous Ventriloquists), and Mr. Dintomon P D (the Anti-Narcotic club coordinator) were present in the programme. Fr. George Pottayil VC inaugurated the club and Mr. M K Karthikaeyan spoke about different types of addiction and the ways to get out of them. The main attraction of the programme was a kitty show performed by Mr. Vinod Naranat. The programme lasted for about one hour.

Vegetable Gardening

DES in collaboration with the MSW Department of De Paul institute of science and technology started the initial phase of vegetable gardening. The agriculture officer of Angamaly Municipality Mr. P P Joy provided the vegetable seedlings for the planting. The MSW students bear the cost of the grow bags and they planted the sapling to grow bags. There are different varieties of vegetable seedlings such as Brinjal, ladies finger, tomato and different varieties of chilies included in the garden. All the plants are being taken care well. Mr. Jijo Joy (HOD, MSW) Mr. Subin George (President, Nature club) and Mr. Dinto (DES) lead the planting activities.

Environmental Day

Friday 03pm - 04pm

DES together with the nature club of DiST celebrated the environmental day. The programme began at 3pm in DiST annex hall with a prayer song. Mr.Subin George the (President - NC) welcomed one and all. Fr. George pottayil and Dr. Unny CJ gave the presidential address and felicitation in the meeting. Dr. Marting G D, an environmental scientist had an interaction with the student about the theme of 2018 environmental day that is “beat plastic pollution”. Mr. Dinto, the project coordinator of DES spelled out the pledge for the students. Later the students were given out saplings provided by social forestry department of Kalady division.

DISHA 2018

12th to 14th

DES together with Malayala Manorama and De Paul School of social work organized a three days residential career guidance programme for the students of class 10, 11 and 12. The three days programme began on 12th April 2018 and got over on 14th April 2018. Eminent motivational speakers and career guidance personnel were speakers for the different sessions on motivation, career orientation, goal setting, leadership skills etc.

International Women’s day celebration

International Women’s day was celebrated in DiST by the social work department and De Paul extension services on 9.3.18 at 3.00pm in the DiST campus. Fr. George Pottayil V C felicitated the gathering. Ms. Anitha Y Tomy(MSW) spoke about the importance of women empowerment and the different laws to protect women. The elder most supporting staff were presented with gifts as a token of appreciation for their relentless service. Later on the first year social work students of De Paul institute of science and technology presented a street play based on the theme of Domestic violence Act.
